Writing a Better Story

What if He's just writing a story?
Our lives, our thoughts, our feelings
Are just words on a page.

What if everything we do
We do because he says we did it
So it'll make a better story?

What if your father
Didn't have to beat you,
Your mother didn't have to die,
All for the sake of a better story?

What if you didn't have to be broken,
Didn't have to be alone,
Didn't have to want to cry,
All for a better story?

What if all we are,
Are words on a page?
Being typed up, on some sort of
Fucked up typewriter in the sky?

What if we're all just fictional,
And none of this really exists,
And our hearts will all stop beating
As soon as the writer is finished?

Well God, is that all we are to you?
Words on the pages,
Ideas in your head. Things to play with,
To make a better story?

Is it going to have your name
On the bottom of the cover?
Will it have some cheasy title?
Will it end up in the 2 cent bin
In the corner of a seven eleven?

Do you fill it with suicide,
And murder, and death.
And this shitty teenage doubt
I'm pouring out right now?

Because for some reason you think
It'll make a better story?

I'll tell you right now,
Adolescent angst,
Does not a novel make

So God, as you're writing my life
As you stitch up plot holes
And leave thrilling cliff-hangers,
I wanted you to know;

As the main character of my chapter,
I feel I have a right,
To tell you bold and clear,
Go ahead,

and write me out
